Was a private tutor to a child with major social, and emotional problems of attachment when he had to return to school after the many times the school closed down during Covid. As his mom was a Social Worker at a frail care centre, the absence from school was even more prolonged so as to prevent Covid from being passed on to the patients. Noah lost all of his confidence, his writing, cutting, and reading skills and had become very bad at concentrating for even short periods. We build up a good bond and he learnt to trust me, and always asked if I would be there the next day. He did very well with his Gr 0 year, considering all the setbacks.

Introduction to families
Dear Family. My name is Alison or Ali as I preferred to be called. I am a 55-year-old female currently residing in Bryanston, Gauteng. I am a go-getter, determined, creative, dedicated, caring and a hard worker. Despite the many difficult challenges faced over the past few years, I always keep a positive attitude. Being of a mature age, I'm still very young at heart and enjoy life. Something that I like to show to the children I work with, especially those who are battling with family or school difficulties. I like to build a relationship of trust and open communication with the family I work for as this is in the best interest of the child/ren. Being responsible for someone else's children is of utmost importance, and I fully understand the necessity and implications for this. After being retrenched, due to Covid, from Northwest Christian School in 2020, where I had been working for 10 and a half years in the Aftercare Department, I soon realised that working one-on-one with a child or with a small group is far more beneficial to the child as they can get the individual attention and assistance they need with their homework and other activities. I decided at that time to do my Diploma in Educare, as I am passionate about the development, care and education of children. I completed my N4 at the end of 2021 and am in the process of finishing my N5 this year.   My experience also covers many years of Au pairing both locally and abroad. Showing a sincere interest and love to a child, while at the same time adhering to boundaries set upfront develops a healthy balance in their development and lives. To me there is nothing more rewarding than to see children succeed even if it does take many tries. Perseverance pays off and with the patience I have this becomes a highlight, especially the look on their face when they suddenly get it! Being able to work closely with them, and see them grow and develop as they learn new and challenging things makes all the hard work and effort worth it. I do hope that my introduction letter to you sheds some light as to the person I am and the dedication I take in making the position as Au Pair an easy transition for any family. With grateful thanks Ali
My experience of having worked both abroad and locally for many years and looking after precious children from the age of 1, has given me a wide understanding of the dynamics of children. Having completed my first year and working at completing my second year this year, towards my Diploma in Educare, the knowledge I have gained through the many practical and theoretical lessons I have done and taught, opens up a whole new perspective and a different approach to assisting children with their homework, projects, and speeches they need to prepare, as well as different ways of teaching children different study methods to retain the information they have learnt depending on the method best for the child. I have realised that I prefer working one-on-one with children rather than in large groups, thus enabling me to give the child the attention and assistance they need. I am willing to go to any length to make learning fun and enjoyable so that homework, projects and speeches don't seem so daunting and to will be done to the child's best ability, with only supervision (and a little help) from me.
Until July 2017, I had been involved in the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements for just over 40 years, attending many leadership courses. I have also attended various first aid courses over the years. Photography became a way of making permanent memories during my childhood and involvement with the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. This is a hobby I still enjoy today. I am passionate about outreach in the community and volunteer my time at Saturday Church for the homeless. I also volunteer at special events at a frail care center where my late husband had been a patient. My other important aspect to my life is my love and appreciation for nature and wildlife. Roughing it, grounds me. Swimming is a favourite pastime and training for the annual Midmar Mile is a challenge I look forward to doing. Other hobbies include travelling (both locally and internationally), jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, colouring-in and just sitting and observing people in different environments.

I was going to assist the principal with the 4-year-old class so she could do some of the admin during this time. The children would have to report to me and not to her. I would be doing the prep work as per theme for the week, while the children slept from 12.00 pm. I was also going to assist with the teaching of the class. Unfortunately due to low numbers of enrolments, I was retrenched.

Private Tutor Noah had lost all of the little self-confidence he had during Covid and had enormous social and emotional struggles related to returning to Gr 0 after the many enforced school breaks due to Covid. I was appointed to get his skills eg. writing, concentration, cutting, colouring, repetition of things back up to standard that would be acceptable for him to carry on his school year withour being held back at the end of his Gr 0 year. We developed a special bond and he grew to trust me, which just assisted in him doing so well.
