I am an educational coach for children with additional learning support needs. I have been tutoring and skill enhancing for the past 8 years. This looks different for each of the students I work with as I am a firm believer in developing a program to suit the needs of the individual, rather than expecting them to comply with a prebuilt program. Further, I have tutored both primary and high school students in English, Social sciences and Maths literacy.

Introduction to families
My name is Marian, commonly called Ri by family and friends alike. I am currently situated in Scarborough but relocating to Muizenburg in the next few months. I am 29 years old and have spent a large part of the last 10 years dedicating myself to working with children. This passion has taken me not only cross-country but internationally too. I have spent time working in orphanages, soup kitchens, schools, remedial programs and coaching sports. These activities have always brought me back to working one-on-one with a small number of students as I believe the best way to make a difference is individually; however, I have always thoroughly enjoyed working with groups of children as I believe they are most themselves when around their own peer group.
I am a kind, loving and enthusiastic person who believes that every child is important and lovable. I have dedicated my life to working with children and hope to one day work as a child trauma psychologist. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in Psychology and Sociology through Boston City Campus, while I assist on an educational study in NME. I hope to move into a Post-Graduate Psychology course in childhood trauma. Studying through correspondents has allowed me to gain experience in several different areas of this field whilst educating myself. I believe that it is important to get to know each child I work with and help them develop their core skills and traits in a loving and safe environment. I will always put the needs of your child first and will ensure that they grow up to be a happy, whole version of themselves.
I have a deep love for cooking and baking and thoroughly enjoy spending time in my kitchen. Equally, I love a good book and I have spent many hours writing too. I enjoy hiking and camping and participate in many different sports, mainly running, swimming and basketball where possible. I believe that art and sport are both excellent outlets for anyone and they are often my go-to to help me stay regulated and clear.

Marian worked directly for me, tutoring and supporting students with academic challenges or needing general academic and emotional support. Marian went beyond expectations. She related well to the students and put every effort and energy into creating constructive ways of support. Marian was reliable and professional and I can recommend her to any position.

Two boys aged 10 and 13
I have worked on and off over the last 6 years with the family; helping them look after the boys, assist with homework and extra murals and support their parenting plan.

Marian has been the greatest gift we have ever given our two boys- her relocation from JHB to CPT has been met with great sadness and with immense excitement for her new adventure. Marian under sells herself- our boys are both neurodiverse and have required patience and a willingness and curiosity to try new learning techniques. Marian has both proposed new methods or worked with the school to find the best solution for the boys. We consider Marian as an extension of our family and any family would be privileged to have someone as caring and considerate as her in their lives.
