Introduction to families
Dear Family, My name is Toneka. I’m a BSc Property Studies (Honours) graduate from UCT born and bred in Cape Town. I went to Springfield Convent from Grade 1 until matric and ended my time there as the Head Girl. I have spent the last year and a half in corporate as a Property Risk Consultant at Investec. I have come to realise – although privileged to have worked at an incredible company – working in corporate and in my industry is not aligned to my purpose. Thus, after a year of deep inner work, soul searching and encountering God. I have decided to pivot in my career and marry my passion and purpose: children and health sciences. From 2025 I will commence my MBChB on my journey to being a Paediatrician. In the interim, I volunteer at Isithembiso Children's Home; I work in Children's ministry at CRC and I want to get back to au pairing - which is what I used to do while completing my post graduate studies.
I believe in children, and I believe in improving child health for all. Striving to change the lives of children in their communities before their lives are changed in our hospitals. On an exciting mission to build robust child health systems that are innovative, adaptive and fascinating. I am patience and empathetic. I’m energetic as well so am able to keep up with kids but at the same time I’m assertive and am able to maintain order.
I love going to watch plays at the theatre - I grew up performing so I have a deep love for theatre and it always brings back fond childhood memories. I also enjoying exercising and anything that involves the outdoors. I love music and can spend hours listening too and learning pieces on the piano. I have deep love for children and spend a lot of my time working and preparing for Children's ministry.
