Introduction to families
Hi, my name's Devin, I'm a 26 year old male living in Cape Town. I have been in youth industry for the past 6 years, specifically in the field of outdoor education and youth camps. After finishing college (Associate degree in Emergency Medical Care) I found my passion in youth work; making a kid laugh, smile, sharing ideas, skills and career aspirations, all of these things are amazing. I've worked with thousands of kids in the last few years, having worked 3 summers in the USA, a year in the UK and over 90 youth camps (school & scouts) in South Africa.
Simply put, I love working with kids, I find it one of the most rewarding experiences to have. I always try to find the positive in every kid and building on previous lessons. I found that every moment is an opportunity to teach a skill or build self-esteem, discuss character and values, no matter what age. As said before I now have quite a bit of experience working with kids of all ages (generally 6-18), from different backgrounds and individual needs. My medical background has helped me work with kids on the Autism Spectrum, those ADHD, Downe Syndrome, Tourettes and other conditions. I'm a hard worker, not afraid to put in the graft if needes and work the long hours, from early morning to late night, it's all fine for me.
I love hiking, camping, reading and watching sports. Basically if I'm not at work and chilling at home I'm watching sports, reading a book or playing video games. I love first aid, both providing it with Disaster Management, Scouts or youth camps, and teaching it to both kids and adults.

Devin worked with us for just over 8 months and it was a pleasure to do so. He worked extremely hard with what ever task was given to him. However his true potential was shown when working with young people. He has a remarkable ability to connect with young people on their level while still keeping a professional attitude and mindset. Devin always made sure that he put the needs of the young people first. I would have no doubts in recommending Devin to work in any capacity with young people.

Devin is a very loyal and responsibly adult leader. He goes the extra mile, and is always eager to assist. He works well with the children, in assisting the children, when they find difficulties in their various activities. He goes down to the child's level, so the children can understand and relate to him. He is well liked by all the children. I will definitely recommend Devin, he is an asset to our organisation, and we will be sorry that he leaves us, but happy that he will continue with what he is good at, caring for the youth.
