Introduction to families
I am currently studying Foundation Phase education at UNISA and I am looking to seek as much practical experience as possible whilst I am completing my degree. In 2017 it should be my final year of study, with a view to complete in honours in inclusive education thereafter. I have worked for the last 6 ½ years as an au pair for various families, whereby I have assisted with homework and getting children to and from school and their extramural activities. I have also worked for a year at a school on a learnership, whereby I gave general assistance in the classroom, acted as a scribe for those people who required it and performed various administrative duties for various teachers. My interest in becoming a teacher began when I was a pupil in Post Matric at Treverton College. We led and taught the outdoor education lessons for gr 8-10 where we did sport, orienteering, kayaking, hiking, camp craft, rock climbing and mountain biking with the pupils. This culminated in us leading the gr 10 group on their annual 5 day excursion into the higher Drakensberg, where we were given the opportunity to put our newly acquired teaching and leadership skills into practice. I have also gained volunteer experience at St Benedicts Junior Preparatory School where I have assisted with paired reading for gr 2. I am also currently a volunteer for the Wordworks literacy programme at Observatory Girls where we reinforce reading and literacy to the gr 1 girls.
I wouldn't say that I'm a perfect au pair, as nobody is actually perfect. I however like to have empathy for the parents that I work for. I like to think about what I would want for my child if the roles were swopped around. This means that I would like to be on time every day when fetching or taking children to or from school and to extramural activities. It also means keeping parents informed of any changes happening with their child during the course of the day. It also means informing parents of any changes to my schedule too. It also means ensuring that homework is done and bags are packed for the next day, so that parents don't have to worry about this when coming home from work. It also means showing a genuine interest in the children that I look after, such as how their day was and asking about anything special that happened each day. I am also reliable, honest and conscientious. I have worked extremely hard over the last 7 1/2 years as an au pair to strive to achieve these values that are so important to me as an au pair
I enjoy dressmaking, where I have my own sewing machine and overlocker. I also enjoy making anything else that I need apart from clothes. I am also an avid reader. I also enjoy cooking and baking.

Sarah was my student over this time on the post matric programme. She was effective in her dealings with managing groups however, is far better when dealing with individuals or smaller groups. she is resiliant, hard working and cooperates well. She is able to follow instruction and was able to use her own initiative when necessary
