Description of tutoring experience
In September, I began a six week process of tutoring a Grade 5 student in preparation for his end of year exams. Together, Sam and I spent the first day drawing up a study plan that would help us to achieve the end goal of being adequately prepared for each of the upcoming exams. For about a week and a half, we spent time preparing summaries of the work that Sam had to study. This made the information easily understandable to Sam and encouraged him to study as the workload seemed far less. In the last week and a half before the exams began, we focused on studying two subjects per day. Sam would read through the work and then take short tests that I had prepared for him. This seemed to best suit his learning style. During the exam periods, we would spend the day before studying for the exam that was to be written the next day. This entailed verbal, written, and pop quiz testing of Sam.

Introduction to families
"Dear Family" message
Dear family, My name is Kayla D and I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Communication Science and Psychology in 2023 and in 2024, the Humanitas Counselling Course. However, I am again questioning what further education looks like for me. Is it a degree in Foundation Phase Teaching, a Bachelor of Social Work, or a Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Psychology? However, while I may be stuck on what my future looks like, I am not stuck on who I would love to work with. And that is children and/or teenagers. I absolutely love working with children and teenagers and this is why I would love to spend the year working with your family, providing a safe place for your children and helping in any way that you need. And perhaps along the way, I will have the pleasure of seeing what my future looks like.
Why I would make the perfect au pair
As a young girl, with a hardworking mom, I was introduced to my first au pair at the age of 9. I do not necessarily remember all that she did for me, but I do remember the overwhelming positive role that she played in my life. The excitement that I felt when she picked me up from school, and the delicious sandwiches that she made me when we got home. I will admit, I do remember being very grumpy when it came to having to complete my homework, but I also remember how while my au pair was firm with me, she was also patient and compassionate as she knew that I struggled to sit still and focus. It is this positive image, and my love for children that encouraged me to seek out a career that would allow me to work with children. I am a very loving and positive person. However, I am able to be firm when necessary, but in a patient and compassionate manner. I have a deep love for working with children and I hope to provide a safe place for your child/children while you are not home. I have tutoring experience and know how to plan study sessions and tests to ensure that progress is being made. I have also worked with two children that have Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I have the experience needed to customise study plans according to their needs. I also believe in transparency and there may be timers where I am not up to date with some of the study material for certain subjects. In cases like this, I take photos of the work, go home and do my own research and ensure that I have an understanding of the material before I cover it. Thus, ensuring that your child/children is taught the correct material.
Hobbies and other interests
I enjoy hiking with my dogs on the weekends, preferably to different reserves or parks so that I can explore new places. I also enjoy painting and drawing (although I am not that good!), reading, watching series with my dogs and spending time with my family.

Job description
The position involved looking after two young boys, Reagan, who was in Grade 2 and Daniel, who was in pre-primary. Duties included fetching Reagan earlier than Daniel from school, preparing lunch and helping him complete his homework. If Reagan had upcoming tests, helping him prepare and study for them. After homework completion, I would fetch Daniel from Midstream College Pre Primary. I would then prepare Daniel a light snack. For the rest of the afternoon, Daniel, Reagan and I would spend half an hour watching television, and then alternate between other activities that they enjoyed. These included walking to the playground nearby, bike riding on the obstacle course within the estate, skateboarding up and down the street, taking the boys to spend time with their friends across the street, playing with Lego, playing board games such as Monopoly and Chess and many other activities that the boys enjoyed.

Job description
I work with the kids from 13.30 to 18.30 daily. I fetch the kids from school, take and fetch them from activities, complete homework with the eldest in the evening. With the youngest, we read and complete Mathletics every day. With the eldest we work on reading, extra maths lessons, homework and test preparation. The eldest struggles with certain learning difficulties, and thus learning has to be adapted to how she is feeling on the day and what best suits her. This often includes finding and testing different study methods, taking time for her to regulate and working at a pace that best suits her.

Job description
I have just been employed as an independent school facilitator. At the moment I have been shadowing the current facilitator who is leaving at the end of the month. The role includes working with a four year old child who is on the autism spectrum. She requires someone to oversee her during the morning activities that start at 8.30 and end at 12.30. Sometimes, she is able to participate in activities without difficulty. However, she will often need a bit of encouragement for some of the activities as she struggles to concentrate. This requires frequent breaks on the playground before returning to the classroom, removing her when she is struggling to regulate herself (sometimes due to the length of concentration required and certain sounds that cause her distress), and helping her find either another place or space where she is more comfortable completing her work.
