Introduction to families
My name is Michelle, and I’m 20 years old from South Africa. First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my letter — I’m really excited about the possibility of joining your family and getting to know you all better! A little about me — I’ve always loved working with kids and being part of a family dynamic. I think it’s because I’m naturally patient and easygoing, but also pretty organized when it comes to keeping things on track. I’ve been an au pair for a family with two kids, and it’s been such a rewarding experience. I’ve learned how to strike that balance between being supportive and giving kids the space to grow and figure things out for themselves. It’s taught me a lot about responsibility, but also about the importance of connection and trust. Beyond work, I’m passionate about traveling and experiencing new places and cultures. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Namibia, and Botswana, and each trip has left me with amazing memories and a greater sense of independence. Traveling has taught me how to adapt to new situations and appreciate different ways of life — and it’s made me really curious about the world and the people in it. I’d say I’m a calm and grounded person, but I also love having fun and finding joy in the little things. I’m happiest when I’m spending time with people I care about, whether that’s exploring a new place, having a relaxed night in, or sharing a laugh over something silly. I try to approach life with a sense of positivity and openness, and I hope to bring that same energy into your home. Thank you so much for considering me. I’d love the chance to get to know you better and see if we’d be a good fit. I hope to hear from you soon!
I’ve always loved being around children — sometimes I feel like I enjoy their company more than adults, and it seems like they feel the same way about me. There’s something so rewarding about teaching kids new things, watching them grow, and knowing that I’m a part of that journey. It gives me a real sense of purpose and fulfillment. I think what makes me good with kids is not just that I enjoy spending time with them, but that I have the patience and understanding to handle the ups and downs that come with caring for them. I’m naturally calm and adaptable, which helps when things don’t go according to plan — and let’s be honest, that’s pretty often with kids! I’m also responsible and organized, which makes managing busy schedules and different personalities a little easier. But more than anything, I believe that kids need to feel heard and supported, and I always try to create a space where they feel comfortable being themselves. Being an au pair isn’t just about helping out with practical things — it’s about becoming a part of the family. I want to be someone your children can trust and look up to, while also supporting you as parents. I’m excited about the idea of building a meaningful connection with your family and being a positive part of your children’s lives.
I have a wide range of interests that keep me inspired and balanced. I’ve always been drawn to anything creative — I love music and art, and expressing myself creatively is something that comes naturally to me. I’m also quite sporty; I played hockey, netball, and took part in various athletics while I was in school, which taught me the value of teamwork and determination. Fashion is another passion of mine — I love experimenting with different styles and expressing my personality through what I wear. I have a few tattoos that reflect meaningful parts of my life, and I love how they tell a story. When I’m not being active or creative, you’ll often find me curled up with a good book — reading has always been a way for me to relax and explore different perspectives.

As an au pair, I am responsible for providing consistent and reliable afternoon care for two children aged 9 and 11. My role involves managing their daily schedules, ensuring they are well-prepared for their extracurricular activities, and supporting their academic development. Since both parents work, I play a key role in ensuring the children’s routines run smoothly, including driving them to and from sports practices and helping with homework. I focus on maintaining a balanced and structured environment, encouraging positive habits and emotional well-being. While the children are fairly independent due to their age, I engage them in age-appropriate activities, including limited screen time and pool games, to foster a healthy balance between relaxation and stimulation. I also provide guidance with their academic work, helping them stay organized and manage their school responsibilities effectively. Although my main working hours are in the afternoons, I am flexible and assist with
