||Dear Host Family
My name is Tiani, I am a 21-year-old female.
I come from a family of 5: My mom, Landi works at an auditor’s firm as a tax administrator while my dad, Schalk is self-employed as an electrician. My eldest sister, Tinese is a SAICA clerk at my mother’s work. My second eldest sister, Tinitha is also a clerk at a auditor’s firm in Pretoria.
In about two+ years I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, but I am yet to make up my mind concerning my future area of specialization. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation.
My first language is Afrikaans, but I am fluent in English as well. I started speaking English at a young age and have also have a certificate to teach English as a second language/foreign language. I am currently studying Korean and Mandarin and am at beginners’ level but would like to become fluent in the next 2-3 years. I am otherwise interested in learning other languages as well.
When it comes to childcare experience, I have looked after children in informal contexts. I often babysat for family members. The children I babysat were as young as a few months old and up to the age of 17. Regarding older children, I played an au pair roll, which included taking and bringing back from school (1+ year of driving experience), driving them to extra activities, doctor visits, helping with projects and schoolwork and tutoring in subjects when needed. Regarding younger children, it was mostly everyday care, if the children where a bit older (<1 year), I would look for stimulating activities to help with development. I also helped a few times at my friend’s mom after school centrum (age 7+).
As someone that would often babysit for family members and the little formal experience I had, I can comfortably say that I sincerely enjoy spending time with children.
For the last year (2023) I have worked with an amazing family, who has a 5-year-old son and a 14-year-old son (grade 8). My duties included transportation, helping the 5-year-old with any homework from school as well therapy. For the 14-year-old I took over academics, including helping with homework, projects, exams preparations, studying and communication with his teachers regarding his academics.
I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you: to answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experiences; to learn more about your family; your interests and to know more about what you expect from the au pair arrangement.
Thank you very much for your interest in my application!
I look forward to hearing from you.
