Introduction to families
It is with great anticipation that I present to you my application as an Au pair. I am a friendly person, as they say that I am fun to be with. I have good interpersonal skills, hardworking and can handle pressure. I am a very calm person who enjoys reading, taking walks and taking up challenging tasks that enhance my mind. I am expecting that being an au pair will enhance my skills in responsibility, accountability, patience and taking good care of children. I enjoy watching movies during my leisure time, as well as sightseeing. There are times that I just want to sit and share ideas with people or more likely initiate a friendly conversation. I am currently working as a baby sitter, in Sandton, Johannesburg in South Africa to a five month old baby. Before that, I was an au pair to three children (7,10 and 13 years respectively) in Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa. Thus I have acquired the experience of working and dealing with children. Some of my responsibilities included preparing meals for the kids, playing with them, driving them to and from school, ensuring a healthy and secure environment and other duties as required by the parents. I recently completed my degree in Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of Zimbabwe. I am waiting my graduation which is at the end of October/ early November. I am also very good at hosting events and birthday parties for kids. This has been my current source of employment, together with the babysitting job. I am a very hospitable person and I possess the skills that are required in working with children. I have also worked as an au pair as I have explained above, in addition to growing up babysitting and taking care of my aunts' and sister's child, which makes me highly skilled in child minding. I belong in a harmonious family. I have a good relationship with my parents and with my sibling. I am the last born of two in the family, but I have ways taken up the responsibility of my other cousins if my parents are not around. I serve as a role model to my cousins and nephews and my nieces. I have one sibling, which is my older sister who is a lawyer by profession and whom I occassionally babysit her 1 year old daughter. I do most of the household chores. I really think that I can perform the job very well knowing that I do have an experience when it comes to children. I can assure you that I will be a good au pair to the family that I will be living in.
My experience as an au pair has taught me patient and responsibilities. There is also a sense of reward in having a hand in raising a child. The reasons why I want to be an au pair is because I not only want to experience the culture of other countries, but I will also be able to meet new people and maybe make new friends. I will also be able to see what other countries offer and what opportunities they have that I can partake in for example learning a new language or a new skill. Becoming an au pair abroad will help me in becoming resilient in that I will be tested at how strong I am as a person because I will be away from familiar environments and this will help me in dealing with change. I will also be able to explore more places during time off and meeting new sets of friends. I will be able to learn the more complex in and out's of life and how to handle it. I believe being an au pair will help me being an independent and responsible person. Taking good care of my host family gives me more responsibility. Lending a hand counts even in my own little ways. Throughout this experience I know I can learn a lot from the family and really looking forward to have a harmonious relationship with them. Learning more about life in another perspective which is beyond my comfort zone. And these memories will be treasured forever.
I would describe myself as an open-minded, hard-working, easy going, dedicated and responsible person. Sometimes I might be shy and a little reserved at first, but that is not something that bothers me at all, I am very flexible. For me, safety, health and happiness of children are most important. I enjoy reading and Danielle Steel is one of my favourite authors. I enjoy taking walks, sightseeing and travelling. Game nights us one of my favourite and I look forward to having those with the children and the parents as well. After being an au pair, I hope to saved enough funds to further my studies and do a masters degree programme in business administration. I also hope to have gained new skills to pursue other business ventures.

Chipo is an easy going and bubbly person. She started working for me in January and she has been exceptional in helping me to take care of my daughter. She loves children and takes care of my daughter like her younger sister. I have no complaints or arguments regarding her stay with me. She truly puts her heart and soul in everything she does. She is the best and I trust her with my daughter.
