Introduction to families
Dear Host Family My name is Daniella J and I am 21 years old. I was born into, what most people would call, a “real Portuguese family”. I have 2 brothers and 4 sisters and being the youngest child, I always got spoiled the most. I had always been the baby of the family, until my older siblings started families of their own. Being the youngest sibling has come with great perks, I’ve always been the designated babysitter in the family, which has been incredible. I’ve always had a passion for being around children. My nieces and nephews range from 2 months old to 13 years old. I was raised in a very loving, family-orientated home. Every Sunday the family would get together for Sunday lunch. More often than not, we had each brought friends along. My family has always had an open-door policy, welcoming in everyone for who they are. My parents decided that it was for the best them to get a divorce when I was 7 years old. I have lived with my mother since their divorce and I visit my dad on weekends. I have a great relationship with both my parents, but my mother is my world. She has raised me into being the independent young woman I am today. She taught me to chase after my dreams and when the opportunity is right, to take it with both hands and never let go. I graduated high school in 2018, finished a higher certificate in Business management in 2019, and I am currently studying me dream career in the field Psychology. Opening a children’s hospital is the end goal. In order to do that I need to know how a business runs and that is why I completed a higher certificate in business management. Furthering my studies in psychology will enable me to understand the children that come into the hospital so that I will be able to help them in the best way possible. I don’t only want to do the business part of the hospital but I want to understand the process. I have also done a 6-month photography course, it’s my second passion. I had been an au pair for a period of 1 year in South Africa, for a lovely family. My responsibilities as the-live in au pair was to take care of the 2 boys, age 8 and 13. I assisted in the morning routine, getting the boys up and dressed for school, I made breakfast and did the drop offs and pickups. After school I helped them with their homework, and made dinner. During my school career and even now, I often help out at a children’s home, called Epworth Children’s Home. For most 2020 was a very difficult year but for me it was an experience of a lifetime, I moved to Italy for a year to be a live in au pair, who looked after the cutest 3-year-old boy. I was a full-time au pair due to my host parents having very time-consuming jobs. I did everything for the little boy from potty training him to teaching how to speak English. I had a lovely experience in Italy, I got to travel and meet so many different types of people but the best part of my journey was I become part of a beautiful family who I will always have a special place in my heart for. South Africa will always be home, that is why I moved back and now am looking for my next family to become part of.
Some want to make millions, I just want to make a difference in a child's life. They my passion and reason for living.
I have always been a very active person. I played hockey and netball throughout my school career. I have always enjoyed exercise. Now that I don’t have school sports anymore, I go on jogs, not only for my physical health, but I find it good for the mind too. Zumba has been a great joy in my life the past few years as it combines exercise and dancing. I believe dancing for just 10 minutes a day can improve your mood and make your day so much brighter. I thoroughly enjoy reading too. If I get my hands on a good book, there is a very good chance I will not put it down until I’ve read it cover to cover. I love baking and cooking, with both my parents who love the kitchen, I guess its just part of who I am. Food is at the heart of all good times.

Daniella was with us for a little less than one year and we feel like she will remain somehow part of our family. She managed to win my son's trust and love (not an easy job), take care of him and find new activities every day especially during the tough three months of complete lockdown we had in Italy due to Covid. She is completely independent, strong willed, loving but firm when needed. I would trust her 100% anytime and anywhere with my kids. Any family would be lucky to have her
