"Dear Family" message

Dear family, My name is Tenique and I am a vibrant young woman living in Bothasig, Cape Town. I went to an all Afrikaans school, named DF Malan High School, in Boston, Bellville where I graduated in 2019. Although my home language is Afrikaans, my English grades were very good. In school I enjoyed taking dramatic arts, history, and computer applications technologies, but my favorite subject was always lunch. I also did athletics, played netball, and was a part of the school’s theatre group, because I liked to spend my free time doing fun activities with my friends. Apart from the busy school life I had, I have an even busier life being part of my family. I live with my extremely noisy, and interesting family, which consists out of my scatter-brained mother, sarcastic father, always-in-the-kitchen grandmother, green-thumb grandfather, and artsy older sister. I have a very work-driven brother that lives in Germany. If that is not enough, we then have four cats and two dogs who each have their own unique personalities. So now you know I have my fair share of living in a full home. Having your own family is a privilege but being part of second family is a blessing and I believe all blessings come directly from God. Family means everything to me. I absolutely love mine and can assure you I will do the same with yours.

Why I would make the perfect au pair

I would make the perfect au pair because I am comfortable and patient with children and adaptable to many different situations. I am creative when it comes to keeping children entertained and do not mind learning new things to better myself and my situations. Getting on the ground for playtime or getting my hands dirty when playing outside is something I do often, because a child’s happiness is more important than staying clean. Life should be enjoyed. That said, I also have my serious side when needed and will complete the tasks given to me. When someone needs help with something like homework, I will be more than happy to help, or if they are upset, I can comfort them. I know looking after children is not all fun and games, that is why I feel having a serious side is just as important as having fun, because that creates balance and guidance for children. I have experience looking after children between the ages of 2 and 13 years old each with unique personalities, needs and situations. I have also shadowed and helped my mother at her own educational business. I believe that everyone can learn something from children. It might be something tiny, but it all adds up to the value of our lives.

Hobbies and other interests

I am a very adventurous person and love an adrenaline rush. I have bungee jumped before, gone on a 10-hour hike, and jumped off waterfalls and cliffs. I also like surfing occasionally, riding quad bikes and sailing. Further I like to try new and interesting things, whether it is doing a new activity, visiting a strange place, or trying an exotic dish. Other than adventurous things, I love helping others. I have volunteered at a few children's homes and charities. I would go out of my way to help someone in need and I do not expect anything in return. This includes animals as well. I have spent many weekends walking and playing with shelter dogs and cats and I would not take back those weekends for anything else. Lastly, for a bit more everyday activities, I like walking my dogs, spending time outside, watching a good movie, reading books, trying out new recipes, playing board games with my family and impersonating celebrities or family members. You might hear some whistling or singing throughout the day and I rarely realize when I do so, because it is my favorite hidden hobby. Feel free to join in and harmonize like my family does.

Highly recommend Tenique. My daughter loved her. She was kind and loving and caring and super responsible when it came to important things like meal times or getting to school and collecting. She ran the home, shopped and managed our cleaning staff beautifully. Tenique is a quick-thinker, intelligent, a problem solver, uses her initiative and she did extra things that was not required for example a special treat in the bag when she dropped Olivias hockey clothes off at school after already doing a trip to school 30 min earlier. Olivia has called crying as she had forgotten to pack her clothes. Tenique stopped and bought Olivia a snack with her own money to include as a surprise as things are always a little bit worse when Mom is away. I will not hesitate to recommend Tenique highly and will definitely employ her again. Olivia still asks about her. They developed a very special bond.
