Description of tutoring experience
I have tutored primary, high school, undergraduate and postgraduate students over the last 8 years. I specialise in English language, writing, composition, academic register and teaching reading and writing! I also have tutored in a remedial capacity- helping students to become more fluent in reading and writing (and hopefully instil a love of literature in them!).

Introduction to families
"Dear Family" message
Dear family! I am an enthusiastic and very well-educated young adult female. I am small in stature, but I can be firm when necessary! I enjoy being organised, planning and structuring things like homework, and punctuality is my specialty. I have a range of qualifications- ranging from first aid, fire prevention/fighting, teaching (specifically English), mentoring, psychoeducation strategies, homeschooling, admin assistance etc. I am newly graduated psychology postgraduate (MSc. Psychology with distinction), so I have studied developmental psychology and education from that perspective- something that is very helpful when planning activities and helping children with their schoolwork. In fact, if you need tutoring/homework experience as well as general au pair duties-I am well qualified with 3 degrees, years of tutoring experience, 3 TEFL teaching diplomas, and experience as a homeschooling teacher!
Why I would make the perfect au pair
I would like to be an au pair to extend my abilities in the work sector. I have already been a sleep lab technician, a research assistant, a service stewardess aboard luxury yachts, a bartender, a tutor/teaching assistant, and a home-schooling teacher. I would be the perfect au pair because I have learnt how to solve problems on every level, and have a bright and calming personality (always helpful with kids!). I have no problem assisting with homework, and have been teaching a large age range of students for about 11 years! I have excellent knowledge of first aid and psychological sciences- thus I have a large amount of knowledge in this sector, too. I am smiley, fair, and patient with children of all ages. My education also means that I really put an effort into listening and understanding what a child is saying or how they are acting before I react. My goal is to make each child feel safe, comfortable, and free to speak to me about anything; hopefully resulting in even more happiness for everyone!
Hobbies and other interests
I am an avid reader and I am a big sports fan (particularly rugby). I also love animals/animal welfare and helping at animal shelters (such as fostering animals and finding them suitable homes). I grew up in a small town in KZN, and was brought up loving the outdoors with many animals- including horses. Growing up in farmlands has helped me develop respect for nature and doing my part to nourish the planet. Now, I am a part-time T/A for UCT, foster puppies for overcrowded rescue organisations, and spend time with my two rescue cats! I also am very passionate about my studies. I am also invested in helping those who could benefit from my three English language teaching diplomas, as I love teaching young students. So if homework help is needed, I am ideal! I enjoy sharing knowledge and fun facts, and creative exploration in academics, drama, and arts/crafts. I love playing games with children- especially mentally stimulating ones, and my bubbly personality turns everything from a chore to a new secret game.

Job description
I mainly baby sat her and helped her with her homework (I was still living in KZN at this time). She needed remedial help so I would spend a lot of time making games that would make reading and writing more exciting, including doing things like bedtime reading and acting out the story lines to increase her interest.

Employer comments
Ash always made time for my girl although very busy during her matric year. She made a big difference to my daughter's approach to something she used to hate- reading. I think Ash's experience as a drama student and as a remedial teacher to other disadvantaged high school teens has a profound and positive impact on her students- it really did make a difference for my child. She has come so far since that time with Ash, and she sees reading in a different way. It is something that I personally think has helped her progress and grow into the confident young adult she is today.
