Accommodation is at a luxury children's holiday resort in Zinkwazi, in the manager lodge, with our other young staff. The cabins consist of two-bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, kitchenette, lounge and balcony. You will eat and socialize with the other counselors and managers but will look after the directors' children instead of the resort guests.
Our business is looking after children, as our husband and I started an American-style summer camp in Zinkwazi. As my husband and I are still very involved with the company, we need someone to help us look after our own kids. We are looking for a flexible all-rounder, someone male or female, who is keen to be both an Au-pair and a driver/PA. You need to have an ability to bond with children of all ages and be passionate about helping each child reach their full potential. As we live far from school and towns, most of our personal and company errands are done in combination with school runs. You need to have a really good sense of direction, with at least three years driving experience. You must have owned your own car and be happy to spend hours driving You will not be using your own car while working, but i need to now that you have owned and driven a car of your own before. We are looking for someone who is excited to relocate to a remote coastal village, to communal accommodation, where not much happens other than surfing. It will not suit someone who is in a serious relationship or who has other family commitments. If accepted, we may invite you to come for one weeks' trial as a camp counselor. This is an ideal way for you to familiarise yourself with our family, the place, the people, and all the counselors (who will be the people with whom you will be living and socialising). The position is still available as those who recently applied have not worked out as we had hoped. A typical week will look like this: Take our daughter to boarding school early Monday then spend the day doing errands in and around Durban, until collecting Cuan, our 10 year old, from school in Ballito on your way home. You will normally have the rest of the afternoon off as its an early start. On Tuesdays you will decide whether to stay in the village with Asher, our toddler, or take him with you on an excursion (eg to visit friends, or visit the animal farm in Salt Rock) before doing the school run and then assisting Cuan with homework. Wednesday mornings will see you helping with errands in Stanger for a few hours, before helping with the afternoon school run. Thursdays and Fridays will usually be different combinations of playing with Asher, helping with lifts, or taking the kids on outings. If we require assistance on the weekends (either with babysitting or lifting) you will get an extra afternoon or morning off during the week. We are looking for someone who is keen to work for at least a year, but preferably longer, as we would love you to become an integral part of our family and not want to leave! Over the past twelve years we employed three different and wonderful Au-pairs, each one having stayed with us for between 1 and 3 years, with whom we are still in contact and whom we still regard as wonderful members of our family.
